1. What information we collect
Information you provide
- Appliance dimensions: Width, height, depth measurements you enter into the search tool. This data is processed client-side in your browser and is not transmitted to our servers unless you use a save/share feature.
- Postcode: Not required for the core fit checker. If a future local feature asks for it, it should be processed client-side unless that feature explicitly says otherwise.
- Email address: Only collected if you opt in to receive saved search results or newsletter communications. See Section 5.
Information collected automatically
- Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, referral URL, time and date of visits. Standard server logs retained for 90 days.
- Performance diagnostics: Aggregated Core Web Vitals telemetry (LCP, INP, CLS, TTFB) sampled at 10% and processed without user identifiers.
2. How we use your information
We use collected information solely to:
- Operate and improve the appliance search tool
- Understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g. which appliance categories are most searched)
- Send you communications you have explicitly opted into
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Cookies and tracking
FitAppliance uses the following cookies:
- Essential cookies: Session management and security. Cannot be disabled without breaking site functionality.
- Advertising cookies: Google AdSense may use cookies to serve relevant ads.
- Affiliate cookies: Set by retailer affiliate networks (Commission Factory, Partnerize) when you click a retailer link. These are third-party cookies used to track commission attribution. See Section 5.
You can manage cookies via your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may impact site functionality.
4. Real user performance monitoring (RUM)
FitAppliance runs lightweight Real User Monitoring to measure page performance in production.
- Sample rate: 10% of page views (`Math.random() < 0.1`)
- Metrics: LCP, INP, CLS, and TTFB
- Transport: `navigator.sendBeacon` to same-origin endpoint `/api/rum`
- Stored fields: metric name, metric value, path (without query), timestamp, and truncated user agent
- Not collected: IP addresses, cookies, user IDs, form inputs, or referer query parameters
5. Affiliate tracking
When you click a retailer link on FitAppliance, the affiliate network (Commission Factory or Partnerize) sets a tracking cookie on your device. This cookie:
- Records that you arrived at the retailer via FitAppliance
- Persists for the cookie window duration (14–30 days depending on retailer)
- Enables us to receive a commission if you complete a purchase
- Does not give us access to your payment details or retailer account
Affiliate tracking is governed by each network's privacy policy: Commission Factory Privacy Policy and Partnerize Privacy Policy.
